I’d like to just say how wonderful it is to listen to Swamiji chanting AUM. That’s something we can do every day…. just play that in our car, our house, however and whenever we can.
Here are a couple of wonderful quotes on Om.
These first two are from Master:
- When you are immersed in om nothing can touch you. Om raises the mind above the delusions of human existence into the pure skies of divine consciousness.
- Om not only proceeds from God, it is God.
Here are a few quotes from Swamiji:
- God’s nature is bliss and to share his Joy, he created us through the cosmic Om vibration. When we commune with Om, we enter into and flow with the stream of God’s love. Om is divine mother – existing in the hearts of all things. Try to feel her blissful presence in everything you see and hear and finally live in the consciousness of Om.
- One who constantly sings Om during his activities and with his whole being, makes his life a continuous song of joy.
I was remembering the story of Dr Lewis, who was out sailing and his boat was about to get capsized. There was a big storm that came up and he remembered what Master said – in Om, nothing can touch you and he began to go within. He brought his consciousness up to the point in between the eyebrows. He tried to merge himself in that vibration and the light and the sound of om and then soon after, the storm began to dissipate.
At that time, the Master was on the shore. He was walking up and down and he kept saying “Doctor is in trouble, I tell you, Doctor is in big trouble”. So he knew that his disciple was in trouble, perhaps because Dr Lewis was in tune with the Om.
When Dr Lewis was able to get to shore, the phone rang. It was Master. He said “Ah Doctor, you almost got a little wet… didn’t you?”
So, if we can get in that vibration, we know Guruji will be there. He’s hearing us. He’s trying to help us. You remember the scene in the movie “The Answer” where the monk was painting a wall, up on the ladder. Suddenly the ladder started going back, and he started chanting “Om” and then a miracle happened. The ladder came back to the wall.
There’s a lot, behind the scenes, that are happening with our Gurus. I read a fantastic story from a Kriyaban devotee who was not as attuned as she should have been. Her name was Nancy. She said she was in the bank and a bank robbery took place. She got totally freaked out. The police then came in and everything went okay.
But she said she felt bad because she was out of control, and freaking out. She wasn’t in her center. She didn’t think of God or Guru and she decided from that day on, she was going to chant Om as much as she could and draw on the Gurus grace.
Lo and behold, she was in a similar situation and a bank hold up happened again. But this time she said she remained centered. She was knocked down as people were jostling and running but she was calm and able to help another person to get out of the bank. She said she attributes the fact that she didn’t totally fall apart to the fact that she had been chanting Om for a long time in her mind regularly. An incredible story, really.
So what does this really mean to be in Om? It means to be in the vibration of Om, the magnetic aura of Om, to be in the light of Om, to be uplifted, to be in the sound – if you can hear the sound.
Even at night, just close your ears using your fingers, as you’re going to sleep. Even if you don’t have the Om technique, go to sleep in that vibration. It’s a wonderful way anytime you’re feeling stressed out if you can close the ears (and chant Om).
Our ashram is inside of ourselves. Through prayer, devotion, chanting, kriya, energization – all of these are producing a magnetic aura of light around us. Every time we do the practices, call on the guru, listen to the talks and the songs and sing in the choir and do the kirtan, we’re increasing the light around our body.
“If thine eye be single”, Jesus Christ said “thy whole body shall be filled with light.” Our practices make us single pointed so that the light goes all around our body and we’re protected. That’s what it means. it doesn’t mean just without any energy “Om, Om, Om”. It means do your practices and you will be in that vibration. Of course, think of it more.
I’ll give a couple of techniques now. When you’re in that vibration, your worries start going away, problems – people, situations, negativity, heaviness, gloominess, depression, these things start going away because that’s not who we are in our souls. In our souls, we are Om. That’s why that chant is fantastic. I am Om – omnipresent, all pervading, all blessed. “I am Om” that should be our affirmation.
Master gave some techniques I want to share here.
- He said chanting Om in the right ear of someone else with deep faith and concentration is one way of driving out negative astral entities.
- Another one is “Om Tat Sat”. Bringing your hands front and back – bringing the Palms forward and back chanting Om Tat Sat – the vibration of God, several times, and you can do that at any time you’re feeling in a strange situation or something’s gone wrong or you’re worried or you’re fearful, you can do that technique.
- Another technique is – Master said with your finger you could you can draw the symbol or write out just with the finger the symbol character of Om or A – U – M or O – M on your pillow before you go to bed at night, and then go to bed in that
vibration. The symbols have the power of Om, and you can chant Om as you’re going to sleep at night and just feel that you’re going to sleep and close your ears. In the morning, before you get out of bed, you can close your ears, you can look at the light in the centre of eyebrows and just feel I’m enveloped in Om.
Of course we can chant “Om Guru”. This is the highest Mantra “Om Guru” and in case of any trouble anytime , anytime you can chant “Om Guru, om Guru” just so you’re just calling Master to you with that vibration and finally playing om music – swamiji chanting Om or play the chant I am om – in your house, in your car especially when disturbing vibrations are there.
It will just help to just calm your house and more than the house it will calm you down. And so the more you can listen to Om, chant om, put the vibration of om around you, attune to the spiritual eye feeling that your whole being has enveloped in om as light as vibration as sound, you can get through many a difficulty and stay strong and stay healthy and stay in tune.
There’s a wonderful quote of Swamiji. Listen intently to the sounds around you, the rushing wind the roar of a river, the buzzing of a bee, the joyful song of a bird, commune with each sound you hear, open yourself completely to it, feel it coming into you, listen for the sound of Om within every outer sound. Watch the wind flow through the trees and grassy fields, see in every trembling leaf and sailing cloud, in every movement the sacred Om vibration, try to perceive Om in everything you do see and hear.
You can close your meditation by chanting Om and feel you’re chanting the sacred vibration as our Guru has taught us and sending that vibration through our consciousness, through our hands out into the world to those in need, for the whole world to be more attuned to this vibration of Divine Mother of Om, that’s everywhere all around us, in every creature, in every living thing and in all of creation and within us.
So, let’s rub our hands together, and send this vibration out to flood the planet with light, with sound, with the vibration of Om.
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti
