Yoga in the West – 8/10/82

Yoga in the West is a study of the similarities and differences of yoga in the East and in the West.

Generally speaking, the West has an external orientation and the East has an internal orientation. The can provide inspiration and support to each other.

Kriyananda tells stories about prominent artists and saints from different cultures and also talks about their meditation practices. He says that people from all cultures who are seeking higher consciousness are using universal principles to lift their energy from a lower direction to a higher direction.

Christian saints have spoken about energy moving upward. St. Teresa of Avilla said tha when the state of ecstasy comes, the soul shoots upward like a bullet shot out of a gun. This is similar to the rising of the kundalini energy as taught in the East.
