Nayaswami Devi is one of the founding members of Ananda having lived at Ananda Village and several of its branch communities since 1969. She has served in various functions of community life, including being a community correspondent and a teacher at Ananda’s Expanding Light retreat.
Together, Nayaswamis Jyotish and Devi, as the Spiritual Directors of Ananda Worldwide, guide and inspire the spiritual activities of Ananda Village and Ananda Communities throughout the world.
Young Jyotish and Devi with Swami KriyanandaLongtime devotees of Yogananda, Jyotish and Devi worked closely with Swami Kriyananda from 1969 until his passing in 2013 and were personally trained by him to guide Ananda’s work. Nayaswamis Jyotish and Devi are both also Kriyacharyas, designated by Swami to initiate people into Kriya Yoga.
Nayaswami Jyotish became a student of Swami Kriyananda in 1967 in San Francisco, California. Soon he began assisting Swami Kriyananda in a variety of ways, including teaching meditation classes in San Francisco. Working closely with Swami Kriyananda, Nayaswami Jyotish became one of the founding members of Ananda Village, which officially started July 4, 1969, and for ten years served as the community’s general manager.
Nayaswami Jyotish Blessed by Devotees Swami Kriyananda’s Last Will, Testament, and Legacy provides that the nine-stone astrological bangle, which Swami ji has worn in his capacity of Dharmacharya of Ananda, should be “worn by my spiritual successor and his successors.”
During a simple ceremony at Ananda Village on May 19, 2013, Nayaswami Jyotish formally received the nine-stone astrological bangle reflective of his new position as Swami Kriyananda’s spiritual successor.
Nayaswami Jaya Helin, became a student of Swami Kriyananda soon after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley in 1968. Upon learning of Swamiji’s interest in spiritual communities, Nayaswami Jaya joined him as a founding member of Ananda Village, now one of the most successful such communities in the world. There he served as Village planner, property manager, and resident acharya for many years. Nayaswami Jaya has been authorized by Swami Kriyananda to give initiation into the advanced meditation technique Kriya Yoga and he travels widely as an Ananda “Kriyacharya,” sharing the teachings and techniques of Paramhansa Yogananda throughout India, America and elsewhere.
Nayaswami Dhyana, is co- spiritual director of Ananda Sangha. She started to study the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda in 1978 and met Swami Kriyananda in 1980. She has shared the teachings of Yogananda in the US, Europe, Africa, Australia and India and helped in the founding of several of Ananda communities and centers. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California in Berkeley, California and worked in social service before moving to Ananda Village in California in 1980. One of her earlier jobs was Director of Big Sisters of America. She’s been authorized by Swami Kriyananda to give initiation into the advanced meditation technique Kriya Yoga. She teaches locally and travels around India offering training in meditation and Raja Yoga.
Nayaswami Dharmarajan discovered Autobiography of a Yogi as a college student in 1996. The spiritual truths in that book strongly attracted him, as did their many applications to daily life, as taught by Swami Kriyananda. After completing a master’s degree in computer science from MIT, Dharmarajanji joined Ananda full-time, where he has worked as a school teacher, meditation teacher, corporate trainer and spiritual director. Dharmarajanji is a Kriyacharya and has been authorized by Nayaswami Jyotish, Ananda Sangha’s Dharmacharya, to give initiation into the advanced meditation technique of Kriya Yoga.
Nayaswami Dharmini became a disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda in Silicon Valley, CA while working as an electrical engineer. Strongly attracted to the spiritual life and meditation, she moved into the Ananda Palo Alto community and soon after began working for Ananda Sangha. Dharminiji teaches classes in meditation and the path of kriya yoga in addition to sharing her love of Swami Kriyanandaji’s and Yoganandaji’s music through playing flute, singing and directing the choir. She also worked for a few years as a personal secretary to Swami Kriyananda. Dharminiji has been a member of Ananda Sangha for nearly 25 years.
A long-time Ananda minister and Kriyacharya (authorized Kriya Yoga teacher), Devarshi is the director of Ananda India’s Kriya Yoga Sangha and also head of the Ananda India Monastery. Devarshi speaks from profound understanding and application of the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda over a lifetime.
Devarshi has served the Ananda communities in Seattle, Washington and Assisi, Italy. He has taught throughout the United States, as well as in Italy and Moscow. Prior to joining the Kriya Sangha, Devarshi held a position on Swami Kriyananda’s personal staff for seven years.
